Our Story

Hi there!

Before I tell you the story of how Paws at Heart started, I first want to thank you for taking time out of your day to visit our website!
Mylo
Our story really began back in 2014 when our two twins (Tilly & James) started persistently nagging myself (Helen) and my husband (John) to get a puppy.

Me and John had both grown up surrounded by dogs as children. My parents are big dog lovers and had a Cockapoo and Cocker Spaniel during my childhood. John's parents owned a farm with two twin Sheep dogs. So, needless to say, we ourselves are crazy about dogs!
Me and John married in 2004 and I became pregnant the following year with twins. We knew our lives would lose a lot of freedom and so we had never even considered getting a dog.

It wasn't until shortly after the twin's 7th birthday when Tilly began asking us about our favourite dog breed and whether or not we could get a dog! John dismissed the idea, saying we would never have the time to properly look after a dog and two twins, but I couldn't get the idea out of my head!

Fortunately for us, both mine and John's parents live close by, and have always been happy to help out with the twins. I knew that my parents would love to welcome a dog back into their lives as well as ours.

It didn't take long until James decided to join his twin sister in the persistent dog-nagging! After having discussed the idea with my parents, I spoke to my husband and outlined how we could make it work for everyone.

John took a few days to think about the idea, before telling me: 'Let's do it!'. The next few days were filled with puppy searches and Tilly began making a shopping list for all the puppy essentials.

We welcomed Mylo, the cutest Golden Retriever ever, into our home 6 weeks later.
When we first brought Mylo home, we wanted to make sure he had everything he needed to feel as comfortable and happy as possible. It was at this moment that I had the idea to create my own business to make sure all new puppies are happy in their new homes!

I discussed the idea with John and he continued to tell me that it would be something I'd regret if I didn't try.

The following summer, Paws at Heart was born!

Now 8 years on, Paws at Heart continues to grow organically, supplying new and innovative toys for pups and dogs alike. Before offering any new product, we put it through the Mylo test: if Mylo likes it, we stock it.

Mylo celebrated his 8th birthday during the summer of 2023 and continues to bring immeasurable joy into our lives.
